We wrote these to be actually readable. Really — try reading the whole thing.
The rest of this page is the full detail.
Gibber is an independent project run by Cats on Acid UG (haftungsbeschränkt) ("we", "us"), a company registered in Berlin, Germany (HRB 291788, Amtsgericht Charlottenburg). Using Gibber is free, and we make money from the ads in the free version and from optional subscriptions. You can reach us at contact@catsonacid.dev. We built this app because we like the idea of free stuff finding new homes instead of landfills, and we're doing our best to run it responsibly and honestly.
You need to be at least 16 years old to use the app. One account per person, please — no sharing, no duplicates. Pick a nickname that's actually yours, not someone else's name or brand. Keep your login details to yourself, and know that you're responsible for whatever happens on your account, so don't let anyone else use it.
These are the basics we ask everyone to follow:
This one matters a lot, so we'll say it plainly: everything on Gibber is free. No selling. No asking for money, gift cards, or "donations" in exchange for an item. No trades-for-value. No advertising your shop, your side hustle, or funnelling people toward a paid deal somewhere else.
This is what makes the whole thing work — people trust that what they see here is genuinely free, no strings attached. If you want to sell something, there are plenty of other places for that. This isn't one of them, and we'll remove content and accounts that try to turn it into one.
You own what you post — your photos, titles, descriptions, and an optional profile photo, if you add one, stay yours. By posting, you give us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, and display that content in the app and service, so the app can actually function and other users can see it.
You promise you have the right to post whatever you upload. Street photos can accidentally capture other people, house numbers, or licence plates — take a moment to check your photo before posting, and don't post content that violates someone else's privacy or rights. The same goes for a profile photo: use a picture you have the right to use, and don't upload a photo of someone else without their consent.
What happens to your posts if you delete your account depends on what kind they are. A giveaway is your own possession, offered from your home, so deleting your account deletes it and its photos outright. A finding is different — it's something you spotted in public, never yours to begin with — so it stays up as community content, just no longer linked to you. Details on how your data is handled, including exactly what deleting your account does and doesn't remove, are in our Privacy Policy.
Gibber is a place to find and post things — we don't own, inspect, or vet any item that gets posted, and we don't vet the people using the app. Findings and giveaways are offered as-is, with no warranty of any kind from anyone involved, us included.
When you reserve a pickup, that's an arrangement directly between you and the other person. We don't enforce it, guarantee it, or take sides if it falls through. Whether an exchange actually happens, and how, is entirely between the users involved.
You're meeting someone you don't know, in person, to pick something up. A few common-sense tips:
Meetups happen in the real world, and they're at your own risk.
In a lot of cities, leaving things out on the kerb for others to take is common practice — but that doesn't mean everything you see on a street is legally free for the taking. Scheduled bulk-waste collections, private property, and other local rules can all apply. It's your responsibility to know and follow the rules where you are.
Karma points, levels, badges, and leaderboard spots are just for fun. They're cosmetic — they carry no monetary value, and they can't be bought, sold, transferred, or cashed out for anything. Please don't try to game them with fake findings, fake status updates, or multiple accounts. We may adjust or reset points and badges from time to time to keep things fair for everyone.
The app is free to use and shows ads to keep it that way. We offer an optional paid supporter subscription that removes ads and adds a few extras — things like alerts covering the whole city, keyword alerts, more simultaneous requests, and exclusive cosmetic looks. Supporting never takes anything away from free accounts: everyone sees everything, and the core of the app stays free for all. The subscription is billed and cancelled through your app store — Google Play or Apple's App Store — under that store's own terms, not directly by us.
To keep the app usable for everyone, some actions are rate-limited — like how many findings you can post in a short window. These limits are anti-abuse guardrails that apply to all accounts, and they're set generously enough that normal use never runs into them.
If content or behaviour breaks these terms or the law, we may remove or hide content, limit certain features, or suspend or close accounts. We'll try to use judgment proportionate to the problem — a first-time slip gets treated differently than repeated or serious violations, which mean stronger action.
You can report content or other users, block other users, or add other users as friends, directly in the app whenever something's not right. If you think we got a decision wrong, write to us at contact@catsonacid.dev and we'll take a look.
The app will keep evolving, and features may change along the way. If we change these terms, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. For meaningful changes, we'll let you know in the app and give you a reasonable heads-up before they take effect. If we ever make material changes, we'll ask you to agree to the new terms again.
You can stop using the app any time, and you can delete your account yourself in Settings — it takes effect immediately, with no way to undo it. Deleting your account deletes your profile photo and your own giveaways and their photos along with it; findings you posted stay up as anonymous community content, and chats and reservation records stay visible to whoever you were dealing with. The full picture, including why, is described in our Privacy Policy. We may also close accounts ourselves, as described in "When we step in" above.
Gibber is provided "as is" and "as available." It's a free community app, run on a small scale, and we can't promise it will always be online, always fast, or completely free of bugs. We're not responsible for what users post, for the condition or safety of the items themselves, or for what happens when people meet up to exchange them.
This limitation does not apply where the law doesn't allow it: we remain fully liable for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and in any other case where the law says liability can't be limited. If we breach an essential duty of these terms — one you reasonably rely on for the app to work at all — we're liable for the typical, foreseeable damage that results.
These terms exist in English and in German, and both versions are meant to say exactly the same thing. Neither version overrides the other — we haven't written any clause saying one of them wins, because the honest answer is that they should never differ in the first place. If you do spot a difference, please tell us at contact@catsonacid.dev and we'll correct it. You can switch language at the top of this page.
These terms are governed by German law. How we handle your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. For the app download itself, the app store's own licence terms apply, and the store operators — Google and Apple — aren't a party to these terms. Questions? Reach us at contact@catsonacid.dev.
